Emergency replacement of a 24KV LBS load break switch and periodic substation maintenance for the StrongWay Vinh Phuc factory.
Project Introduction
The substation at StrongWay experienced a failure in the LBS load break switch, threatening operational safety and causing production disruption. Manh Cuong quickly deployed a rapid-response technical team to replace the equipment in the shortest time possible, combined with overall substation maintenance to prevent future incidents.
System Role and Function
Ensuring flexibility and safety for the medium voltage station:
- Allowing safe 24KV medium voltage switching for maintenance or fault isolation.
- Protecting systems downstream of the transformer during short circuits.
- Maintaining safe insulation levels between phases and to ground.
Detailed Construction Items
Items performed during the power outage window:
- Dismantling the old, damaged 24KV LBS with burnt contacts.
- Installing a new 24KV LBS (SF6 or air insulated type).
- Replacing medium voltage cable terminations and insulators if necessary.
- Industrial cleaning of the entire substation and electrical cabinets.
Advanced Technical Solutions
Manh Cuong used modern measuring equipment to check the simultaneity of LBS contacts after installation. We also applied specialized contact grease and performed high-voltage AC testing to ensure the new equipment operates perfectly before re-energizing.
Standardized Execution Process
5-step emergency response process:
- Step 1: Completing power outage procedures with utility authorities and ensuring site safety.
- Step 2: Dismantling old equipment and cleaning connection points.
- Step 3: Hoisting and positioning the new LBS into the support frame.
- Step 4: Connecting medium voltage cables and testing electrical safety indices.
- Step 5: Removing grounds, re-checking everything, and performing the re-energizing process.
